September Chapter Meeting

SPEAKER Dan Funk, Engineering Manager, Kyocera Industrial Ceramics, Corp

Dan has been with Kyocera Industrial Ceramics for the last 20 of his 36 years in the ceramic industry, working in process and material engineering, as well as product development.  After earning both BS and MS in Ceramic Engineering at Alfred University, his career has spanned materials from porcelain to high end technical ceramics including oxides, nitrides and carbides.  Current primary interests are in the interactions of raw materials and processes, the resulting properties and functionality, and the utilization of advanced ceramics for new applications.  Recently this has also included metallization of ceramic components for electrical and hermetic applications.

 

Presentation:

 

1.     Kyocera company overview / introduction

2.     Overview of the materials Kyocera manufactures and examples of how they are used.

3.     Ceramic to ceramic joining capabilities & examples.

4.     Metallization of ceramic to join with other metal components (electrical feedthroughs / high voltage applications).

5.     Design guidelines for ceramic components that addresses capabilities & cost impact (side by side example).

October:  Regular meeting 10/22/14, speaker(s) TBD.  As always, suggestions welcome.  A joint meeting with the local AIAA chapter is possible in the near future, possible change of venue.

November: No meeting due to Thanksgiving Holiday.

December: High Desert SAMPE Holiday Party!  Details available soon…dancing, band and raffle prizes!  There will not be a regular meeting due to the Holidays.

January:  Regular meeting on 1/28/15, speaker(s) TBD.
