Title: High Pressure Cold Spray Technology and its applications for coating, repair, and additive manufacturing

Biography: Dr. Reza Rokni, Postdoctoral Associate, M.C. Gill Composites Center, University of Southern California:

He joined USC in Oct 2015. He studied at Tehran University, Tehran, Iran, earning his bachelor’s and then Master’s degree in Materials & Metallurgical Engineering in 2004 and 2008.  In 2011, he started his PhD at South Dakota School of Mines & technology (SDSM&T), South Dakota, USA, in Materials Science & Engineering. His areas of interest are related to research and development (R&D) of additive manufacturing processes including cold spray process, friction stir processing and other severe plastic deformation processes, with especial focus on design-processing-microstructure-mechanical properties relationships.

Dr. Rokni’s main objective through his research has been to perform interdisciplinary R&D on additive manufacturing processes, especially high pressure cold spray, to ensure continuous improvement in repair, refurbishment, and fabrication of parts and components for various industries. His work has been recognized with several different awards such as, The 2014 Mines Gold Medalist, Best Presentation Award at the 2015 Annual International Thermal Spray Conference, etc. He has also been involved in humanitarian and leadership activities including being president and treasurer for International Student Inc., and team leader for Food Bank community service society.

Dr. Rokni’s desired goal is to enable US industry to succeed in distributed operations and increasingly complex environments through realization of superior materials processed by additive manufacturing processes, and make the USA a better place for living.
